DESCRIPTION

Cusco, Cachora, Rosalina BeachDay 1: Cusco - Cachora - Coca Masana - Playa Rosalina

Our tour will begin with the transfer from the Hotel in Cusco at 4:30am in the morning for starting the trek. After 3 hours, we will be arriving to the small town of Cachora  for having our breakfast. After we will be meeting our horsemen for arranging our equipment on mules and horses. The trip will continue with a 2 hour hike to Capuliyoc (2915m) from where we will have our first beautiful view of the Apurimac valley stretching below as well as the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora. After we will walk  to  Coca Masana (2330m) where the climate becomes noticeably warmer and the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally we will arrive at Playa Rosalina (Rosalina Beach) at 1550m beside the raging Apurimac River where we will set up camp and spend the night.
   
Day 2: Rosalina Beach – Choquequirao

This is the hardest day of the 5 day trek. After an early breakfast we will continue  climbing a steep trail leading up from the Apurimac Valley. It is a 5 hour hike to Raqaypata beside the Chunchullumayo River where we will have lunch and time for a deserved rest. Along the way we will observe many orchids and wild flowers as well as many birds. From Raqaypata to Choquequirao (3035m) we will continue with a 2 hours hike. We will arrive at the archaeological site in time to enjoy the sunset and maybe the opportunity to see a Condor flying nearby. Our campsite will be just outside the ruins.
  
Choquequirao, RaqaypataDay 3: Choquequirao – Raqaypata

That day we will spend the time exploring the incredible ruins of Choquequirao. Our guide will explain the history and importance of the site. You will have plenty of free time to visit the many sectors of the complex. Late in the afternoon we will start the return trek and will be camping  at Raqaypata.

Day 4: Raqaypata – Chikisca

After breakfast we will continue our return trek with a steep descent towards the Apurimac River where we will stop and have lunch. In the afternoon we will climb for approximately 4 hours to our final campsite at Coca Masana, also called Chikisca.

From Coca Masana we will take a new trail, that crosses the throat of the Apurimac canyon. Arriving to Cachora we wil take our bus toward Cusco.
  
Departures: To suit group requirements, from April till December.

What you need to bring/carry:

  1. Backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
  2. Sleeping bag, it can be rented from our agency for US$ 16,00 / 4 days
  3. Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
  4. Strong, comfortable footwear
  5. Warm clothes, including jacket, fleece and sweater
  6. Water bottle and purification tablets (Micropur are recommended )
  7. Towels
  8. Flashlight and batteries
  9. Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
  10. Sun block (sun protection cream)
  11. Insect repellent
  12. Toilet paper
  13. Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc,
  14. Camera, films and batteries
  15. Water bottle and sterilizing tablets (ie. Micropur)
  16. Towel
  17. ash in soles and/or US$
  18. Optional: walking sticks or poles
  19. An extra porter to carry your personal items: US$ 20,00/day

What is not included:

  1. Dinner on the last day.
  2. Tips for the guide, cook and porter
